Anders Romare works in his studio located in Sköndal, Stockholm, from where he creates mostly figurative paintings with watercolor on paper or canvas.

His dreamlike paintings drift between the observed and the fantasized. They depict worlds beyond reality and revolve around the existential with themes that are personal and reflective of his own inner world; Identity, loneliness, escapism and melancholy.

His motifs are allegorical in nature, depicting an emotional state rather than the objects they represent. At the same time, they serve as a starting point for artistic experimental play – an alternation between the figurative and the abstract.

The viewer can sense the creative and critical process through which Romare's unique work takes shape, as the motif is processed, broken down and then re-emerged in ever-changing layers. This process is a method of re-creating the motif, a search for the essence.
